SHAH ALAM, Feb 23 — The Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) wants the electricity disruption affecting more than 200 residents of Flat Taman Permata in Dengkil over the past five days to be resolved immediately.
Berita Harian reported that Deputy Minister Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu said that while they understood the issue involved safety concerns linked to the building’s main wiring, which requires rewiring, the repair period must be expedited for the residents’ well-being.
She added that the previously announced repair timeline of about one week must be strictly adhered to.
“We view seriously the power disruption affecting residents of Block 5, Flat Taman, over the past five days and will not compromise on matters involving public safety.
“A joint visit with Permodalan Negeri Selangor Bhd (PNSB), as the joint management body (JMB), and Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) found there was a risk of current leakage that could threaten residents’ safety.
“As such, the electricity supply had to be temporarily cut by TNB, and I have instructed PNSB to carry out repair works immediately without any excuses or delays.
“In addition, they must provide an official written explanation to the affected families,” she said after a site inspection and meeting with residents at the flat today.
The report revealed that over 200 individuals from 46 families are affected by the incident, marking the second such breakdown following a similar incident last year.
Previously, the state government spent about RM1.5 million to place the residents in temporary housing after they had lived in poor conditions for nearly a quarter of a century.
They were later relocated to the Ampar Tenang People's Housing Project (PPR), which was completed last year.
Aiman noted that any unreasonable delay in repair works will be questioned, and further action may be taken.
As an immediate measure, the Sepang MP said she had discussed with the Sepang District Officer the possibility of moving affected residents to temporary shelters, with the costs to be borne by the JMB.
"This issue has been raised with the PNSB's top management to ensure a comprehensive solution, not just temporary ones,” she said.
