SHAH ALAM, Feb 22 — The Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) detained a 65-year-old man suspected of claiming to be a prophet at a premises in Rawang, Selangor, yesterday.

Three other individuals — two men and one woman — were also arrested at the same location, the state religious authority said in a statement today.

JAIS director Dato’ Mohd Shahzihan Ahmad said based on initial investigations, the man had claimed to have met with several prophets in the past two to three years in a national park.

"He told his followers that he had met Prophet Adam in person during the day, and Prophet Muhammad in the form of light at night, in addition to meeting other prophets two to three times per week.

"His followers claimed that the man was a messenger of God and treated his actions as divine instructions, including believing that it was permissible not to pray or fast if feeling tired or unwell," he said in a statement today.

Shahzihan said the arrests followed an investigation into a complaint about a man claiming to be a prophet and influencing his family, which went viral on February 9.

The case is being investigated under Section 7 of the Syariah Criminal Offences (Selangor) Enactment for allegedly conducting ceremonies or acts related to Islam that contradict Syariah law, and Section 8 of the same enactment for allegedly declaring himself a prophet and claiming knowledge beyond human understanding.
