SHAH ALAM, Feb 20 — Mosque managers across Selangor must be more professional and adopt clean, user-friendly practices to attract more congregants and visitors, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
He said good governance won’t just improve worshippers’ comfort, but also position mosques as centres for proselytising and community engagement.
As an example, he noted that the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque, which emphasises efficient governance, attracted some 100,000 congregants and visitors last year.
“I was intrigued by the report by Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque grand imam Dato’ Muhammad Farhan Wijaya that the state mosque welcomed about 100,000 visitors.
“When a mosque is clean, and its facilities are in good condition and comfortable, it will not only attract people to come and visit, but also enhance its role as a centre for unity and ummah development,” he said at an aid presentation ceremony for mosque personnel at the state mosque’s banquet hall here today.

At the event, 3,315 personnel from 445 mosques across Selangor received a special Aidilfitri incentive totalling RM1.5 million from the state government through Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), or MBI.
“This allocation was initially announced during the 2026 Selangor Budget tabling, and serves as an appreciation for the main management team who shoulder significant responsibilities,” Amirudin said.
He added that while the amount may not be huge, it shows the state government is committed to ensuring the welfare of mosque personnel and strengthening Selangor’s Islamic institutions.
“The mosque is not just a house of worship, but a centre for community unity as well as spiritual and social development.
“Its management must be carried out wholeheartedly, as its impact on the community and the image of Islam as a whole is significant,” Amirudin said.
