Lead with sincerity, MB tells village heads

SHAH ALAM, Feb 9 — A sincere spirit of service to the community must be the guiding principle for every village head in Selangor.

Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said sincerity in carrying out the responsibility must stem from a clear understanding of the role and duties of a village head, rather than merely holding the position.

“If we do not start with sincerity, we will begin to question everything. To achieve sincerity, it must begin with understanding — understanding the role of a leader.

“Carry out that role to the best of your ability. When we start with sincerity, followed by understanding, we will become good leaders. Some compete to become village heads, but when they act without sincerity, they only go halfway,” he said in his speech.

He was speaking at the 2025 Village Development and Security Committee (JPKK) Appreciation Ceremony and the presentation of appointment letters to JPKK chairpersons for the 2026/2027 term at the Ideal Convention Centre (IDCC) here last night.

The event, which honoured more than 200 local leaders, was also attended by rural development executive councillor Datuk Rizam Ismail.

Amirudin also reminded village heads of their role as effective intermediaries in conveying accurate information to the public, in order to prevent confusion and the spread of misinformation.

“You do not only represent your village, but you are also state leaders. If there is anything that needs clarification, you must help explain it to the community.

“There is so much misinformation in our lives today. Do not be influenced by it. If you do not know, ask. This position is a trust — a trust to help administer the state,” he said.
