SHAH ALAM, Aug 5 — All 373 chairmen of Selangor's Village Development and Security Committees (JPKK) have been offered the opportunity to attend the basic Community Mediator course, which serves as a platform for resolving community disputes.
State executive councillor for rural development and unity Datuk Rizam Ismail said the course, organised by the National Unity and Integration Department, equips participants to act as neutral mediators, helping conflicting parties reach mutually agreed solutions.
"Any traditional village head who is interested and has the potential may apply to undertake the advanced accreditation course to become a Community Mediator.
"This strategic collaboration will also strengthen their role as agents of reconciliation in resolving disputes within the community, without escalating issues to the authorities," he said during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting today.
Rizam added that the course is also being offered to Rukun Tetangga community members, with participants to receive accreditation and certification upon completion.
"In conjunction with National Month this August, I call on all members of the Selangor community to remain united as Malaysians who cherish national unity, and to encourage the organisation of more programmes that foster the spirit of patriotism at the grassroots level, including within each state constituency," he said.
During the Wesak Day celebrations in May, the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj called on all Malaysians, regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, or background, to continue upholding the spirit of mutual respect, tolerance, and harmonious coexistence, which forms the foundation of the nation's strength.
In a message posted on the Selangor Royal Office's Facebook page, His Royal Highness said the country's diversity should not be seen as a source of division but rather as a valuable heritage that must be preserved as a pillar of national unity.
