SHAH ALAM, Feb 8 — Selangor is targeting over 5,000 volunteers to serve as the main driving force in ensuring the smooth organisation of the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) 2026, which will take place in August.
Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said that so far, about 1,000 individuals have registered, and participation remains open until before the country’s largest sporting event begins.
Registration can be done via the official website, by accessing the volunteer link, or by scanning the QR code shared on the official social media page @selangor2026.
“In fact, we are targeting 5,000 volunteers overall, but if there are more, we are ready to accept them because many aspects of the events taking place in August will require assistance.
“This is our event together in Selangor, and we want to ensure that it becomes a memorable event with the best possible organisation, with the involvement of all the people and the community as volunteers, as spectators, and as supporters of our athletes,” he said.
Amirudin was speaking at the launch of the SUKMA and Para SUKMA 2026 Volunteer Programme at Dataran Kemerdekaan Shah Alam today.
Also present were the state executive councillor for youth, sports, and entrepreneurship, Mohd Najwan Halimi, the SUKMA Secretariat chief executive officer Dato' Mohd Yazid Sairi, and the Shah Alam Mayor, Dato' Mohd Fauzi Mohd Yatim.
Meanwhile, Najwan said that every registered volunteer would be screened by the secretariat, and those selected would undergo training programmes under the Selangor Youth and Sports Department.
This marks the second time Selangor has hosted SUKMA in 28 years; the first was in 1998. This volunteer contingent will form the front line in assisting with the organisation and deployment across all competition venues, involving nine districts and 12 local authorities.
“We hope young people, especially in Selangor, will take this opportunity. Their tasks will include managing event operations, including technical matters and protocol, which is valuable experience for a career.
“Do not miss the opportunity to be part of the Selangor 2026 family. Allowances will also be provided to participating volunteers. Participation is open to individuals aged between 18 and 40,” he said.
The 22nd edition of SUKMA will be held from August 15 to August 24, with the opening ceremony taking place at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC), while the Selangor Para SUKMA will be held from September 5 to September 10.
474 events across 37 sports will be contested in nine districts, at 52 competition venues, while Para SUKMA will feature 10 sports and 316 events in the Petaling and Klang districts.
