SHAH ALAM, Feb 3 — Selangor FC has strongly condemned the actions of a small group of supporters over a recent commotion on the Kuala Terengganu Drawbridge, describing it as unlawful and a threat to public safety.
In a statement, the club said it deeply regretted the incident that occurred ahead of its Super League match against Terengganu FC on Sunday.
“The club does not compromise and strongly condemns any form of behaviour that violates the law and threatens public safety.
“The club further emphasises that such conduct is contrary to the values of Selangor FC and the wider Selangor football community,” it said today.
Selangor FC said this incident should serve as a reminder of the shared responsibilities of all parties and hoped supporters would continue to uphold mutual respect and unity to ensure a positive and healthy football culture.
The club also expressed its appreciation to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) for the swift and firm action taken in safeguarding public order and safety.
“Selangor FC remains open to engaging with any supporter communities and shall provide full cooperation to the relevant authorities in elevating the safety and excitement of local football,” it said.
Yesterday, it was reported that 33 Selangor FC supporters were remanded for possessing drugs, testing positive for the substance and for obstructing the duties of public servants in connection with the commotion at the Kuala Terengganu Drawbridge.
Initially, all 412 supporters travelling in 10 buses were detained in the Sunday evening incident and taken to the Terengganu police headquarters for urine screening.
Of those, 21 tested positive for tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), while three were held for possessing ganja and are being investigated under Section 6 of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Nine others were arrested for possessing flares, with investigations being conducted under Section 8 of the Explosives Act 1957.
State executive councillor for youth and sports Mohd Najwan Halimi said yesterday that the state government would not compromise on any actions that tarnish the image of sports or the state, and would leave the matter to the police to investigate and take action.
