SHAH ALAM, Feb 1 — The increase in dengue cases in the Petaling district has prompted Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Faculty of Health Sciences master’s students to step forward and organise a community clean-up programme to curb the spread of the viral infection.
Student representative Muhammad Iqbal Mohd Yusof said the programme, implemented in collaboration with KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM), focused on Pangsapuri Taman Bunga Negara in Section 27, which has been identified as an area with a high number of dengue cases.
“Data from the Petaling District Health Office (PKD) shows that this location is at high risk for dengue cases. Therefore, we hope for the cooperation of all residents, including foreign nationals, to play their part.

“In addition to the clean-up activities, we also organised a dengue exhibition in Malay, English, Nepali, and Burmese to make it easier for residents to understand.
“At the same time, basic health screenings were also offered to residents,” he told Media Selangor during the 'Community Health Programme: Dengue-Free Programme' today.
Meanwhile, Shah Alam City Council councillor Wan Shaharuddin Shah said the area's high population density increases the risk of dengue transmission, making efforts to maintain environmental cleanliness more challenging.

He added that it has not only recorded a high number of dengue cases but has also previously reported deaths from the viral infection.
“The dengue threat is serious and real. Therefore, today’s programme is highly relevant in eradicating mosquito breeding grounds. I hope all residents will extend their cooperation,” Shaharuddin said.
During the programme, KDEBWM provided Roll-On Roll-Off (RoRo) bins to help residents dispose of waste before the company's collection, and sponsored 150 souvenirs for local residents.
