SHAH ALAM, Sept 5 — The decline in weekly dengue cases in Selangor is not yet cause for relief, as the total number of cases and deaths resulting from the disease remains concerning, said state executive councillor for public health and environment Jamaliah Jamaluddin.
She added that said control and prevention must be strengthened to curb the spread of dengue, with community cooperation essential.
“Efforts to combat dengue cannot rely solely on government agencies. Each of us has a role to play in ensuring our homes and surroundings remain clean.
“Eliminate Aedes mosquito breeding sites and spend at least 10 minutes each week inspecting the area around your residence,” she said in a Facebook post after chairing the Selangor Dengue Action Meeting yesterday, where current case numbers were reviewed and measures for control and prevention were discussed.
Meanwhile, she encouraged the public to adopt protective measures such as using mosquito repellent, installing netting or screens on doors and windows, and seeking immediate medical treatment if experiencing symptoms of dengue fever.
“Prevention begins with us, and only with the cooperation of all parties can we reduce the risk of dengue transmission and protect our families and communities,” Jamaliah said.
