SHAH ALAM, Nov 12 — Pandamaran state assemblyman Tony Leong Tuck Chee has pledged to assist residents of Kampung Papan, Klang, who have been affected by an ongoing development project in the area.
He said his office will ensure that the residents’ welfare is protected and that no family is left out from receiving appropriate assistance.
“I urge the developer to defer the demolition of occupied homes. Initial aid has also been provided to affected residents.
“We have also held discussions with the Selangor Housing and Property Board (LPHS) to secure nearby relocation for the residents,” Leong told Media Selangor when contacted today.
He added that following a court order, Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari had only directed the developer to demolish vacant houses.
However, Leong claimed that the developer intends to proceed with demolishing still-occupied homes.
So far, the Kampung Papan settlers have not received any compensation, but they have been allocated seven acres of land by the developer, as stated in a letter dated November 11.
The assemblyman reaffirmed his commitment to safeguarding the welfare of the affected families and urged them to visit the Pandamaran Constituency Service Centre to obtain further information and access official assistance channels.
Earlier, news reports stated that 20 houses in Kampung Papan, Pandamaran, were demolished beginning on Monday (November 10) to make way for a new project by the developer.
Some residents alleged that the operation was carried out without clear notice, and several only became aware of the demolition when the works were already in progress.
