JAKARTA, Jan 29 — The Indonesian authorities have stepped up passenger screening at Bali's I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport to prevent the possible entry of the Nipah virus, an airport official said today.
Xinhua reported its PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia communication and legal division head Gede Eka Sandi Asmadi as saying that stricter monitoring has been implemented for passengers arriving from overseas amid a rise in Nipah virus cases abroad.
The airport is closely coordinating with the Class I Denpasar Health Quarantine Centre to conduct comprehensive supervision in arrival areas, including body temperature checks using thermal scanners at both international and domestic terminals.
Passengers showing symptoms will be referred by health quarantine officers to a designated hospital in Denpasar for further examination. He urged travellers to maintain their health and stay informed about the latest developments related to the virus.
I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport is one of Indonesia's busiest international gateways, handling more than 24 million passengers in 2025, the majority of whom were international travellers.
