SHAH ALAM, Jan 29 — Eighteen people were arrested over various offences in the Selangor Immigration Department (JIM) integrated operation across the Petaling district on Tuesday.

Selangor JIM said the operation — which was launched thanks to complaints and information received via email, operations centres, public complaints, and internal communications — comprised four editions, which are Ops Minyak, Ops Selera, Ops Belanja and Ops Sapu — involving 16 enforcement officers.

The locations involved included auto workshops, eateries, barbers, and shops in Petaling.

“Twenty individuals were inspected, and checks led to 18 individuals being arrested over various offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and Immigration Regulations 1963,” said Selangor JIM.

The operation across the district included:

  • Seri Kembangan — Two Myanmar nationals were arrested during an inspection at an auto workshop as the men were found without valid travel documents

  • Cheras — Four Indonesian women were nabbed during an inspection at a shop for entering and residing in Malaysia without valid passes and violating pass conditions

  • Petaling Jaya — Two Indonesian men were held during a check on a restaurant for not having valid passes and overstaying

  • Petaling Jaya — Two Indonesian men were arrested during an inspection at an auto workshop for not having valid travel documents

  • Petaling Jaya — Two Indonesian men were nabbed at a services centre over offences under Sections 6(1)(c) and 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63

  • Shah Alam — Three Nepalese women and one Nepalese man were held during the operation at a restaurant as they were found without valid passes, had violated pass conditions, and had committed offences under Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963. In the same operation, four witness summonses were issued and three employers were identified to assist in the investigation

Selangor JIM director Khairrul Aminus Kamaruddin said everyone arrested was sent to the Immigration Depot for further legal action.

He added that the department would continue launching enforcement operations to prevent the entry of illegal immigrants.

“Strict action will be taken against any party that violates the nation’s immigration laws,” Khairrul said in the same statement.

Selangor JIM advised the public not to protect or employ illegal immigrants, and not be deceived by people impersonating immigration officers.

“All immigration-related affairs are done over the Immigration Department’s official channels,” said Selangor JIM.
