SEED 2030 outlines Selangor’s concrete food security push

SHAH ALAM, Jan 27 — The Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS) has launched the Agribusiness Transformation Plan 2026-2030 (SEED 2030) as a concrete step for the state government to boost food security in a comprehensive, sustainable and resilient manner.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the strategic five-year plan is not just a planning document, but a real effort to build a state agrofood system that is more systematic, modern, and prepared for future challenges.

“SEED 2030 emphasises Selangor’s commitment that the food issue isn’t just about agriculture, but a core of economic stability, social well-being, and the state’s strategic preparedness, especially as the world faces climate change, global supply chain disruptions, and cost of living pressures.

“Through the PKPS’ stronger role as the strategic implementing agency, agropreneur system development, innovation and digitalisation integration, and the expansion of initiatives like Ehsan, Jualan Ehsan Rahmah, the Selangor Food Warehouse (GMS) and Selangor Fruit Valley (SFV), we are building an agrofood system that is more modern, integrated, and inclusive,” Amirudin said in a Facebook post.

“Every big transformation starts with a seed. What we plant today will determine the strength, resilience and security of Selangor’s food system for coming generations.”

Amirudin also thanked PKPS for being the first agency to launch the strategic plan soon after his New Year’s address yesterday.

“It reflects a work culture that is proactive, far-looking and quick to translate state aspirations into real implementation, in line with current needs and challenges,” he added.

Meanwhile, he said that for the plantation sector, SEED 2030 will increase palm oil production by 64.9 per cent to 735,000 metric tonnes, compared with the 445,000 metric tonnes between 2021 and 2025.

“The poultry farming sector is set to (grow to) 20.1 million birds, from 6.31 million (from 2021 to 2025), while the SFV is expected to see a 22 per cent rise in visitors to 500,000, compared with around 400,000 now.

“For the retail sector, the Ehsan product range will be expanded to 100 SKU units to penetrate the Middle Eastern and European markets. From 2022 to 2024, Ehsan product sales were at RM204.8 million, and by 2030, we are targeting to earn more than RM1.54 billion.

“The Ehsan Dairy Farm project in Bukit Tagar will officially start operating in March, with a production target of up to 32,850 litres of milk,” Amirudin told reporters after the SEED 2030 launch here yesterday, as reported by Sinar Harian.

SEED 2030 will be mobilised with five strategic cores, backed by four PKPS subsidiaries and the use of automation, data analytics, and artificial intelligence-based systems.

The plan is in line with the National Agrofood Policy and Selangor Agro Transformation Plan (PeTA), which aims to strengthen resilience and ensure Selangoreans’ welfare.
