SHAH ALAM, July 27 — The state government continues to strengthen food security through education, public awareness and multi-stakeholder collaboration to ensure the public has access to clean, safe and quality food.
State executive councillor for public health and environment Jamaliah Jamaluddin said the state-level World Food Safety Day 2026 celebration serves as an important platform to raise awareness that food safety is a shared responsibility involving producers, food handlers and consumers.
She said ensuring access to clean, safe and quality food is crucial to protecting public health and supporting the well-being of the people, particularly in a rapidly developing state like Selangor.
"Through education, awareness and cooperation from all parties, we can continue to strengthen the culture of food safety within the community," she said in a Facebook post yesterday.
Earlier, Jamaliah officiated the state-level World Food Safety Day 2026 celebration, organised by the Selangor State Health Department (JKNS), at Mydin Hypermarket in Subang Jaya.
Among those present were Health Ministry deputy director-general (Food Safety and Quality Programme) Zailina Abdul Majid, Selangor State Health director Dr Ummi Kalthom Shamsudin, Selangor State Health deputy director (Food Safety and Quality) Sazali Harun, and Mydin managing director Datuk Ameer Ali Mydin.
Jamaliah also expressed her appreciation to the JKNS Food Safety and Quality Division and all parties involved in ensuring the success of the celebration.
"May this effort continue to promote food safety practices in every home, school, food premises and community throughout Selangor," she said.
