SHAH ALAM, Jan 26 — The Selangor government is checking in with about 3,500 underprivileged families every six months to ensure they don’t fall under the hardcore poverty line, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
He said the proactive approach was pursued as the state administration doesn’t wish for families to fall into hardcore poverty before aid can be channelled.
He explained that various forms of continuous aid are available, including Bantuan Kehidupan Sejahtera Selangor (BINGKAS) and assistance from the Social Welfare Department (JKM) and the Selangor Zakat Board (LZS).
“In 2026, we are moving a step ahead. We will implement BINGKAS Tambahan to help the over 3,000 families who could fall into hardcore poverty due to unemployment, disease, or other issues.
“We will try to end hardcore poverty. Thank God, I want to remind you that last year we eradicated hardcore poverty, which is why we will continue recording high investment (rates),” he said in his New Year’s address to civil servants here today.
Amirudin said the state government has also provided special funds to strengthen several important sectors, including education and religious institutions.
He added that RM4 million has been earmarked to upgrade facilities at religious schools, such as to buy new tables, chairs and digital devices to support learning, and RM2 million would go to expediting strata title registrations.
Besides that, Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque will be given RM2 million more after it recorded its highest visitor number last year, with more than 100,000 tourists having visited the house of worship.
“As I announced in the 2026 Selangor State Budget, the state government will also offer third-language classes with an allocation of RM500,000 from February 9, as well as RM500,000 for financial literacy classes in schools from March,” Amirudin added.
