PETALING JAYA, Jan 26 — With its care economy plan on track, Petaling Jaya City Council’s (MBPJ) inclusive city aspirations are set to be met.
Petaling Jaya Mayor Dato’ Mohamad Zahri Samingon said MBPJ is committed to ensure the plan benefits the entire community, no matter age, gender, or ability.
“(My) term of service as mayor has been extended by a year to next January. Among the main focuses is to ensure the senior citizen care economy plan moves as planned and meets its targets.
“Not just that, enforcement operations have been ramped up, and all complaints will be addressed so they can be resolved,” he said during the Petaling Jaya Children’s Council 2026/2027 member appointment ceremony here yesterday.
Previously, MBPJ was appointed as the first Selangor local council to implement a care economy action plan.
MBPJ was chosen to execute the plan, which supports the Selangor State Care Economy Policy 2024-2030 (DEPNS), as it houses over 2.3 million people and is a dense, developing city.
To complement the plan, MBPJ also launched the “PJ Food With Love” community initiative.
Selangor launched the DEPNS ahead of it becoming an ageing nation, where 8.1 per cent of its residents are 65 years old and above.
The policy comprises five cores — advocacy and promotion, governance and oversight, trained carers and workforce, investment and cooperation, and innovation, technology and data.
The DEPNS centres the care of senior citizens, children, and people with disabilities, and details support for formal and informal carers.
