SHAH ALAM, Jan 22 — The preparation of venues Petaling Jaya has lined up for the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) 2026 is at 70 per cent, as the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) continues to upgrade infrastructure and sports facilities.
MBPJ’s Corporate Communications Department in a statement said upgrades and maintenance are underway at major locations that would be directly involved in the organisation of the prestigious event.
“So far, around 70 per cent of upgrades are done, and all preparations are set to be completed on schedule before SUKMA 2026 starts.
“These upgrading works are being done to ensure each venue is safe, functions well, and adheres to the organiser’s technical specifications,” read the statement.
Among the main venues are the MBPJ Hockey Stadium, MBPJ Arena, Astaka Sports Complex, D’Kelana Hall Tennis Court, and MBPJ Stadium.
The department said upgrades are being done in stages, closely monitored by technical departments, to ensure works are done on time and disruptions to the public are minimised.
“Efforts to upgrade these sports facilities are being done to ensure optimal readiness by SUKMA 2026, as well as to maintain a level of comfort and quality of public facilities for local communities’ use,” it added.
MBPJ emphasised its commitment to providing quality sports facilities to support SUKMA 2026, while ensuring public facilities meet community needs.
