SHAH ALAM, Jan 20 — The Selangor Environment Department (DOE) said it hasn’t detected toxic gas or dangerous chemicals at the site of the Olak Lempit Industrial Area factory fire in Banting.
The DOE said air quality monitoring was done from January 15 to 17 near the four factories involved in the fire.
“Monitoring revealed no toxic gas or dangerous chemicals detected on the Multigas Detector (Dräger) or the Portable Multigas Analyser CEREX Shepherd FTIR,” it said in a Facebook statement.
However, odour pollution in the area is still present, which could disturb sensitive persons depending on wind direction and speed.
The DOE added that cleanup is underway by the companies.
As a precaution, the department advised that senior citizens and children stay away from the site.
Those wishing to lodge complaints about environmental pollution may contact the DOE via its toll-free number 1800-88-2727 or email eaduan@doe.gov.my.
For complaints about open burning, the public can contact the Fire and Rescue Department at 999 or 1800-88-994, or SMS 03-88880964.
The January 15 fire, which was reported at around 10.05pm, ripped through four factories, razing two.
Police confirmed that firefighters had found three charred corpses in the aftermath.
