SHAH ALAM, Jan 20 — The Selangor government received RM450 million from the federal government through the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) today for the Selangor Smart City initiative.
The allocation was announced by Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil during a memorandum of understanding (MOU) exchange ceremony for Selangor Smart City here.
“This MOU focuses on the development of smart interconnectivity, boosting public safety and traffic management, as well as smart flood management under the Selangor Integrated & Intelligent Operations Centre (SIIOC),” he said.
Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj witnessed the MOU exchange. Also present were Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah and Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, as well as state and federal leaders.

Fahmi emphasised that smart interconnectivity infrastructure development is the basis of a smart city, including the expansion of the fibre optic network, public Wi-Fi facilities, and support for the National Digital Network (JENDELA), to ensure wider, more stable, and quality internet access.
“The smart city (initiative) also strengthens the state government’s planning capabilities and urban management with the use of integrated data and smart technology, which supports more accurate, sustainable, and high-impact policymaking.
“This initiative also acts as the state’s digital economic catalyst, encouraging innovation and boosting Selangor’s attractiveness as a strategic investment destination,” Fahmi added.
As of December 31, Selangor, with its 7.4-million-strong population, achieved a 5G coverage of 96.9 per cent, making the state a leader in 5G network coverage in Malaysia.
