Technician claims trial to posting offensive video on TikTok

SEPANG, Aug 27 — A technician pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court today to a charge of posting an offensive video on his TikTok account earlier this year.

Mohamad Norfirdaus Abdul Rahman, 29, was charged with making and initiating the posting of a communication with intent to hurt others through the TikTok account “nowad.acc4” on January 12.

The posting was later viewed at Tower 1 of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) in Cyberjaya at 1.30pm on January 23.

The charge, under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, is punishable under Section 233(2) of the same Act and carries a maximum fine of RM500,000 or two years’ imprisonment, or both, with an additional fine of RM5,000 for each day the offence continues after conviction.

MCMC prosecuting officer Mohamad Azmir Mohd Razali proposed bail at RM10,000 with one surety.

Lawyer Azi Azlin Zulkifli, representing the accused, asked for lower bail, saying that his client earned RM3,000 a month and had to support both his parents.

Judge Ahmad Fuad Othman allowed bail at RM6,000 with one surety and set October 7 for mention.
