SHAH ALAM, Jan 12 — The Sepang Municipal Council (MPSepang) will introduce an internal awards at year-end to recognise councillors who deliver high-quality services to the community.

Its president, Ani Ahmad, said the initiative aims to encourage performance-driven governance, with councillors evaluated based on service outcomes and community impact, The Star reported.

“Councillors will be assessed on four key criteria, namely efficiency in service delivery, facilitation of state programmes, collaboration and leadership within the community, and discipline and integrity in their work,” she was quoted as saying.

Ani said this after the swearing-in of the new batch of councillors at its headquarters in Cyberjaya on Saturday.

MPSepang council president Ani Ahmad swears in for the new term at the council headquarters on January 10, 2026.

A total of 24 councillors were appointed for the new term, with 22 sworn in during the ceremony. Seven of them are newly appointed, while the remaining two will take their oaths at a later date.

Three-term councillor Hazimun Rahman Mohammad, who has been reassigned from the Labu zone to Desa Sentosa, said he plans to focus on strengthening local tourism for Visit Malaysia 2026.

“With the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) located in the municipality, we have the advantage of attracting tourists to stop by Sepang before they head to other locations,” he said, adding that areas such as Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi Walk could be further promoted.

He also suggested creating a dedicated plane-spotting area near KLIA, saying that such attractions are popular with tourists abroad.

Long-serving KLIA zone councillor Teo Lian Seng said he would continue working closely with local stakeholders to ensure development projects remain aligned with government policies.

The ceremony was also attended by Sungai Pelek assemblyman Lwi Kian Keong and special officer to Tanjung Sepat state assemblyman Datuk Borhan Aman Shah, Rahimah Bibi Naoor Pitchai.
