SUBANG JAYA, Jan 10 — The Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) will continue upgrading its drainage system as an ongoing measure to reduce the risk of flash floods in the city.
Subang Jaya Mayor Dato' Amirul Azizan Abd Rahim said various mitigation efforts implemented previously, including installing flood control gates and immediate action at high-risk locations, have shown positive results, with Selangor not experiencing major flooding in December last year.
“Alhamdulillah (God be praised), we are grateful that there was no severe flooding and that what occurred were only flash floods, as a result of the planning and mitigation works that have been carried out,” he told the nedua after the MBSJ Councillors’ oath-taking ceremony yesterday.
Amirul added that this success should not place the local authority in a comfort zone; instead, maintenance and improvements to the drainage system must be carried out continuously.
Drainage and roadside gutter upgrading works will be implemented in stages to ensure smooth water flow, particularly during heavy rainfall.
He said the ongoing measures are among MBSJ's main priorities in safeguarding residents’ well-being and reducing the impact of weather-related disasters in urban areas.
During the ceremony, 24 MBSJ councillors took their oath of office and signed their letters of appointment for the term from January 1, 2026, to December 31, 2027, comprising 10 new appointees and 14 reappointed councillors.
