KLANG, Jan 9 — Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin graced the opening ceremony of a poetry recital titled Majlis Puisi Dirgahayu Tuanku here last night.
The event, organised by the National Poets’ Association of Malaysia (Pemuisi), was a show of respect to the institution of Malay Rulers in the form of a poetry recital.
The recital featured various attractive performances including readings of poems, syair and monologues, as well as dances, songs, and silat.
Among these performers was Lifetime Poet and Senator Prof Emeritus Datuk Seri Awang Sariyan and National Laureate Datuk Zurinah Hassan.
Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin also launched the Antologi Puisi Dirgahayu Tuanku published by Pemuisi, which is a collection of the voices of the people protected by the Malay Rulers.
Over 200 guests were present at the event, including poets, literary figures, senior government and private officials, university students, and poetry enthusiasts.
