SHAH ALAM, JAN 8 — The state government will only allow pig farming activities to be carried out at Ladang Tumbuk in Tanjung Sepat, Kuala Langat, to streamline environmental management and strengthen disease control measures, including against African Swine Fever.

State executive councillor for infrastructure and agriculture Dato’ Izham Hashim said the directive, which takes effect this year, involves 112 pig farms.

The decision was made following discussions at yesterday’s State Executive Council meeting and will be implemented for a three-year period.

“This move is also aimed at safeguarding food security for the non-Muslim community. At the same time, it helps preserve social harmony and prevent environmental pollution,” he said during a media conference today.

As part of the directive, all pig farm operators are required to renew their licences in the near future.

“Among the main conditions for licence approval, operators must ensure their farms adopt a closed-system concept, implement a zero-discharge waste management system, and are located within a designated sustainable zone,” Izham said.

He added that most pig farmers in Selangor are already operating at Ladang Tumbuk, with only three farms currently located in Sungai Belankan, Sepang.

“These operators are required to relocate their livestock to the designated area. Applications can now be submitted, and the approval process is expected to be completed within one month, including the resolution of technical, farming, and site-related issues,” Izham said.

Meanwhile, the modern pig farming centre in Bukit Tagar, Hulu Selangor, previously approved, is expected to begin operations only in 2030 due to several outstanding issues, including land acquisition.

“This centre represents a long-term strategy for the development of the pig farming sector, but time is needed to resolve technological and investment-related matters. Some progress has already been achieved,” he said.
