PETALING JAYA, Jan 7 — Prasarana Malaysia Bhd marked a record 1.63 million passenger journeys, its highest daily figure, on December 31 for New Year’s Eve, said Transport Minister Anthony Loke.
He said Prasarana’s average daily passenger journeys throughout last year also rose by 11 per cent to 1.31 million, from 1.18 million the previous year.
“Over the past three years, several improvements have been made. I still remember, in 2022, the Rapid service was unsatisfactory, there were many technical disruptions.
“We were determined to accept the criticism and vowed to improve. In the past three years, there has been concerted efforts from the people at Prasarana to improve,” he told a press conference after tabling the Prasarana 2025 Performance Report and 2026 Plan at Menara Prasarana here today.
Also present was Prasarana president and chief executive officer Amir Hamdan.

Loke however said the intercity bus has not improved in a clear manner in that period as the system involves lengthy waiting periods.
He said Prasarana would improve the service, including by introducing a first phase of 250 electric buses by March.
“The weakness of our bus system is long wait times. In terms of passenger numbers, it has been declining. We will try to improve the efficiency of bus operations,” Loke added.
Under Budget 2026, Prasarana will receive 1,450 electric buses and 300 electric vans in phases until 2030, towards a more modern, environmentally friendly public transport system.
Prasarana will also receive 310 new buses next month to increase journey frequencies in selected areas, as well as 300 vans for the Demand-Responsive Transit (DRT) system.
