SABAK BERNAM, Jan 6 — KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM) has empowered its domestic and bulk waste management in Sabak Bernam with a RM6.4 million allocation to buy 19 new lorries.
Its managing director Dato’ Ramli Mohd Tahir said the lorries mark KDEBWM’s entry into the second phase of its seven-year contract with the Sabak Bernam District Council (MDSB), after having operated in the district for nearly seven years.
He added that the move is in line with KDEBWM’s continuous improvements across Selangor to ensure a more efficient and effective waste management service.
Among improvements slated for the new phase in Sabak Bernam is the expansion of operation zones from 16 to 19, which allows for more systematic solid waste management for the district’s nearly 120,000 residents and 50,000 premises.

“The handover of 19 new red and yellow lorries, which depict Selangor’s colours, are hoped to improve operational efficiency and completely and comprehensively resolve waste-related issues in Sabak Bernam,” Ramli said at the handover ceremony at the Sungai Besar Stadium here yesterday.
He highlighted KDEBWM’s commitment to provide quality service in all areas under local authorities it serves, no matter city, municipal, or district council.
“People are encouraged to channel complaints about cleanliness on KDEBWM’s Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram (platforms) with pictures and exact locations to allow immediate action,” he said.
Ramli added that the MDSB is the 10th local council in Selangor to extend its second-cycle contract with KDEBWM, with two more councils to follow suit soon.
This, he said, is evidence of local councils’ trust in KDEBWM’s level of service quality and effectiveness.

Meanwhile, MDSB deputy president Awaluddin Zakaria said the new contract and assets have created room for the improvement of cleansing services, especially in the cleaning of drains and public areas.
He added that this is in line with MDSB’s aim to make Sabak Bernam a clean, well-managed, and tourist-friendly rural district.
Awaluddin added that Sabak Bernam has over 140 registered homestays and several ecotourism locations, and is among the nation’s main food sources, so a high level of cleanliness is important to draw tourists and investors.
“All parties, including councillors, community leaders, Village Development and Safety Committees, joint management bodies, and local residents are urged to work with KDEBWM and the council in maintaining the cleanliness of their respective areas.
“Solid waste management is a shared responsibility to realise Sabak Bernam’s seven-year ‘Bersih dan Indah (Clean and Beautiful’ aspiration,” Awaluddin said.
