SHAH ALAM, Jan 8 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari is closely involved in the state budget process but doesn’t micromanage, and instead places strong trust in the civil service, his press secretary Jay Jay Denis revealed.
He said Amirudin takes on an active role at the various stages of budget planning, compared with previous menteris besar and other state leaders.
“He’s extremely hands-on. The people who have (worked with) him also said he has a knack of understanding details, and that shows in his work ethic.
“I think the civil service team in Selangor is used to that style of leadership, because as hands-on as he is, he also empowers the Economic Planning Unit to come up with plans.
“Unlike maybe the previous menteri besar, he doesn’t get involved in micromanaging,” Jay Jay said during Media Selangor’s Lunch On Us! programme that aired on Monday, when asked about Amirudin’s role and involvement in preparations of the state budget.

He added that Selangor civil servants have adapted well to Amirudin’s leadership, where state officers are given greater mandates and responsibilities.
“He (Amirudin) understands the details and also empowers at the same time, and I think it is critical to have a civil service that not only takes orders, but understands and has the capacity to plan (ahead),” he said.
Jay Jay added that Amirudin’s approach has helped uplift the civil service’s internal expertise, and reduced dependence on external consultants and enabling officers to add greater value to policy formulation and implementation.
On November 14 last year, Amirudin tabled the RM3.23 billion 2026 Selangor Budget themed “Selangor Champions, People Prosper”, which reinforced the state’s ambition to lead economic performance while ensuring social well-being.
The state budget, a step up from last year’s RM3 billion one, reflects a more expansionary fiscal stance aimed at supporting growth, resilience, and development.
