SHAH ALAM, Dec 31 — Selangor police said 258,345 summonses have been settled, with collections totalling RM19.51 million over two months following the implementation of a 70 per cent-discount programme.
Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said that of the total, 125,759 summonses worth RM11.49 million involved fines issued directly to traffic offenders.
The remaining 132,586 summonses, amounting to RM8.02 million, were issued for offences involving vehicles without the presence of the drivers, or for traffic violations where offenders were not stopped by police, such as speeding and running red lights.
Shazeli said the Klang Selatan police recorded the highest number of summonses collected at RM2.7 million, followed by Petaling Jaya (RM2.1 million), and Kajang (RM1.7 million).
“The Selangor Police contingent extends its utmost appreciation to the public for their commitment in settling their summonses.
“This initiative not only eases the burden on the people but is also a catalyst for greater awareness and compliance with road laws, which contributes to the safety and well-being of all road users in the state,” he added.
He said Selangor police have also observed a positive trend in the growing acceptance of digital technology.
He noted that while cash payments remain high, with collections totalling RM10.06 million, e-payment methods recorded a significant RM9.45 million.
“This reflects a clear shift towards faster and more efficient transactions, in line with the nation’s ongoing digital transformation,” Shazeli said.
The discount programme was effective at traffic police counters across Selangor from November 1 to yesterday.
