SHAH ALAM, Dec 25 — Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari has extended his festive greetings to Christians and celebrants throughout the state for Christmas, which falls today.
He said that December is especially meaningful for those who look forward to celebrating Christmas on the 25th, while the 31st marks a new page for the entire world.
"In Selangor, it is this very diversity that makes the state strong and grounded in mutual respect," Amirudin said in a Facebook post today.
Noting that Christmas symbolises love and giving, he said the New Year represents resolutions and hope. These two celebrations are observed in more than 160 countries, uniting people regardless of background.
"To those celebrating Christmas, may this festive season and the arrival of the New Year bring a wealth of meaning and significance to your lives. May the 365 days ahead bring health, sustenance and a spirit of togetherness, for a Selangor that continues to thrive," Amirudin said.
The public holiday saw thousands of congregants attend church throughout Kuala Lumpur, including at the Church of Our Lady of Fatima in Brickfields, where they gathered as early as 8am for the services.
Meanwhile, in Klang, the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes saw families and friends gather for services at the attractively decorated house of worship.
