SHAH ALAM, Dec 24 — Selangor recorded the highest coconut production and sales value in the country, producing 178,641 metric tonnes annually worth RM282.5 million, according to the 2024 Agricultural Census Report.

Chief Statistician Datuk Seri Mohd Uzir Mahidin said Selangor’s coconut planting area spans 12,143 hectares, the second largest in the country after Johor, which has 14,225 hectares.

“Although Johor has a larger plantation area, Selangor produces more coconuts with 178,641 metric tonnes compared to Johor’s 132,268 metric tonnes.

“Furthermore, the sales value of coconuts in Selangor is also the highest at RM282.5 million, compared with Johor’s RM202.74 million,” he said while presenting the report online yesterday.

For the record, the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) presented the country’s fourth Agricultural Census Report, with the last census conducted in 2005.

Mohd Uzir also noted that three districts in Selangor are particularly active in the agriculture sector: Kuala Selangor, Sabak Bernam, and Kuala Langat.

Sabak Bernam has the highest number of individual agricultural holdings in Selangor with 9,664, followed by Kuala Selangor (7,194) and Kuala Langat (5,471).

“However, the highest agricultural income is recorded in Kuala Selangor at RM1,841 million, followed by Sabak Bernam (RM1,824 million) and Kuala Langat (RM1,465 million).

“The total plantation area in Selangor is 176,868 hectares, covering 4,303 crops, 2,628 livestock, 1,468 fisheries, and 273 aquaculture units,” he said.

Under the Selangor Budget 2026, the state government has allocated RM4.85 million to strengthen food supply security.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said RM9.5 million has also been allocated for the development of agro-food parks and potential agricultural land to strengthen the state’s primary industry.
