SHAH ALAM, Dec 23 — Ratepayers in Selayang will begin receiving their assessment bills via WhatsApp from June 2026, as part of the Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) efforts to enhance digital service delivery.
MPS president Shahman Jalaludin said the new platform will complement the council’s existing notification channels, which currently include e-mail and SMS.
“Currently, our notification system for assessment bills is via e-mail and SMS. Since almost everyone uses WhatsApp, we will include this platform to send their assessment bills starting June 2026,” he said after chairing the MPS full board meeting, reported by The Star.
He said the move is part of the council’s efforts to improve communication with ratepayers.
Shahman urged homeowners to register and update their personal details on the MPS portal at mymps.mps.gov.my highlighting that the registration rate remains low.
“Now, only 35 per cent of the total 231,261 accounts have registered on our portal to receive their assessment bills via e-mail and SMS. This is a low percentage,” he said.
He added that complaints about missing assessment bills were often due to outdated records, as the council no longer issues physical paper bills.
“Many of our account holders said they didn’t receive their assessment bills. They must know that we don’t post the physical paper bills anymore,” he said.
Ratepayers who have yet to update their information were encouraged to do so to ensure future assessment bills and reminders can be delivered via WhatsApp.
Shahman also called on councillors to help disseminate information to residents on registering and updating ownership details through digitalbil.mps.gov.my.
“The assessment bills for the first half of 2026 have been sent out, so the WhatsApp reminder to pay their assessment will start in June 2026,” he said.
Additionally, Shahman said the council’s collection performance on assessment payments made through the MyMPS portal in November alone amounted to RM60.96 million.
“This is cashless payment via our portal. Other ratepayers also pay online via JomPay, among other methods,” he said.
As of November 30, 2025, MPS collected RM66.61 million in assessments for the first term and RM58.58 million for the second term.
For outstanding assessments, he said RM7 million had been recovered from total arrears amounting to RM9.5 million.
