SELAYANG, Aug 24 — The Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) and the Malaysian Institute of Planning will hold the Smart City Seminar to explore AI use in urban planning and management, said MPS president Shahman Jalaludin.
He added that the seminar, themed “AI Meets Urban Planning 2.0”, will be held on September 15 at the KLGCC Convention Centre and involve about 400 participants.
“This (inaugural) Smart City Seminar is to explore the rapid growth of AI technology that could change the way cities are planned, developed and managed,” he said after chairing an MPS meeting here today.
He said the event’s objectives are to explore practical AI applications in urban planning and management, including sharing sessions by various experts on best practices and current technologies, and real-world applications and financing mechanisms.
“It would also cover the challenges and implementing mechanisms of smart initiatives and strengthen multi-sector strategies between local authorities, governments, academics and private industries,” Shahman said.
When tabling the Second Selangor Plan (RS-2), Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the state government would expedite the administration’s digital transformation by incorporating AI and boosting interdepartmental data-sharing systems.
He added that the state government would accelerate AI adoption through the Teraju AI programme and the Selangor AI Incubation Centre under the Selangor International Innovation Centre of Excellence (SLIICE), managed by the Selangor Technical Skills Development Centre (STDC).
Amirudin also said the programme would focus on AI product development for government agencies, AI professional certifications for workers, and an incubator platform for the comprehensive development of Selangor’s AI ecosystem.
