GOMBAK, Dec 18 — Residents of Kampung Fajar, Hulu Kelang, have agreed to the state government’s recent redevelopment offer, which includes the provision of new homes.
Surenthran Rajoo, chairman of the Kampung Fajar Residents Association, said the opportunity to own a RM200,000 home measuring 1,000 square feet is one that should not be missed.
“If residents do not accept the menteri besar’s (Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari) offer now, they might have to wait another 20 years for a redevelopment opportunity like this. Overall, residents agree and are ready to relocate. Getting a RM200,000 apartment of this size in areas like Taman Melawati is extremely rare,” he told Media Selangor.
Surenthran added that discussions between the residents’ association and the local community following a meeting with Amirudin indicated no objections to the redevelopment proposal.
However, he noted a few matters still need negotiation, particularly regarding the relocation period.

“So far, the moving period is set until December 31, 2026, but residents hope it can be extended to early 2027. They also request extra time to hold prayer ceremonies and religious events before relocating,” he explained.
He also raised concerns about the temporary rental rate of RM1,000 per month.
“Rental costs outside the area are high. Many residents work and children go to school around Taman Melawati, so the cost of living will increase. We hope this rental assistance can be increased,” he said.
Last week, Amirudin announced a RM60 million allocation for the redevelopment of Kampung Fajar and Kampung Warisan in Hulu Kelang to provide more comfortable housing for residents.
The project will be managed by Landasan Lumayan Sdn Bhd (LLSB) and is expected to begin in 2027, with a 24 to 36 month completion period.
Amirudin, who is also the Gombak member of parliament, said the development will focus on constructing RM200,000 apartment units measuring 1,000 square feet, well below the market price of approximately RM229,509.
