SHAH ALAM, Dec 10 — Twenty mosques and surau in Selangor received RM2.47 million for development and maintenance, as part of the state’s efforts to strengthen Islamic institutions, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
He said the funds, channelled through the Selangor Mosque and Islamic Institutions Construction and Maintenance Assistance Trust Fund, were distributed to 11 mosques and nine surau.
“This substantial allocation reflects the state government’s ongoing commitment to ensuring the comfort of congregants and the continued sustainability of our mosques and surau.
“These funds will support a range of urgent needs, including structural repairs as well as upgrades to existing facilities such as PA systems, air-conditioning units, and ablution areas.
“It will also cover essential routine maintenance to ensure the premises remain clean and safe,” he said during the aid presentation ceremony today.
When met by reporters later, Amirudin said this initiative is part of the state’s continuous efforts to support and expedite mosque construction projects.
“There are two mosques we are completing — one in Alam Sari, which is largely funded by community contributions, and another in Limau Manis, which is part of the Public Works Department (JKR) Implementation Coordination Unit’s project that was left unfinished due to funding issues.”
Meanwhile, Masjid Darul Ehsan Subang Jaya’s Islamic affairs officer, manager and imam Muhammad Halim Zamri said the RM 30,000 allocation received by the mosque will be used to replace the mosque’s deteriorating canopy over the entrance.
