KDEBWM: Waste collection disruptions in Subang Jaya resolved

SUBANG JAYA, Dec 8 — Waste collection around Subang Jaya has now returned to normal according to the scheduled timetable, said KDEB Waste Management's (KDEBWM) managing director Dato’ Ramli Mohd Tahir.

He said the previous disruptions were caused by several unavoidable factors, including truck breakdowns and flooding incidents that affected several districts.

“Additionally, another factor we faced is the contract period nearing its end as it enters its seventh year. When a contract is close to expiry, certain challenges do arise, but we take responsibility, and all waste has been collected.

“Collection in both residential and commercial areas has now been fully completed. In fact, to address the situation, KDEBWM has increased the number of compactor and roll-on roll-off trucks so that collection returns to normal,” Ramli told Media Selangor.

The company is confident that similar issues will not recur once the Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) receives larger, more advanced assets next year, and zoning will be implemented to ensure a more balanced distribution of work.

He added that more than 20 contractors have had their contracts terminated for failing to carry out waste collection in accordance with the agreed conditions.

“Each company signs an agreement. If they fail to perform the work according to the terms despite several warnings, their contracts will be terminated.

“We also hope that residents will show reasonable understanding if a truck arrives slightly later than the scheduled time. Sometimes issues like breakdowns or emergencies occur. Avoid submitting repeated complaints when action has already been taken,” Ramli said.

Meanwhile, Subang Jaya State assemblyman Michelle Ng Mei Sze said she is ready to act as a liaison between KDEBWM and MBSJ to ensure waste collection issues are effectively resolved.

“I am aware of the latest situation, especially in commercial areas, which have resulted in unpleasant odours. The collection has now returned to normal.

"What is important is to ensure that appointed contractors do not disrupt operations to the extent of burdening taxpayers. I hope next year’s contract renewal will prevent similar issues from recurring and ensure smoother operations,” she said.
