KAJANG, Dec 5 — A boy was found unconscious after being swept away by strong currents while trying to retrieve a ball that had fallen into a drain at Lorong 1/3A, Taman Prima Saujana, here last night.

Kajang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof said the 12-year-old was found at 7.47 pm in Sungai Kantan, several kilometres from where the incident occurred.

“The child was confirmed dead at 10 pm while receiving treatment at Kajang Hospital.

“Another victim, the boy’s 14-year-old brother, has yet to be located and search and rescue operations are still ongoing,” he said when met at the scene, according to Harian Metro.

It is understood that before the incident, the two siblings had been playing football with friends at a field near the housing area before they were swept away by a current while trying to retrieve the ball that had fallen into the drain. It had been raining heavily earlier in the evening.
