SHAH ALAM, Dec 3 — Employers should play a more proactive role in ensuring workers’ welfare, so productivity is maintained and companies are able to contribute to economic and social stability, said state executive councillor for human resources and poverty eradication Papparaidu Veraman.

“I hope more employers can do their part in being more proactive and effective in building a safe, inclusive and productive work culture.

“Employers also play an important role in social stability, by providing equal job opportunities for vulnerable groups,” he said during the Employers Development Seminar closing ceremony at the Social Security Organisation (Socso) office in Klang today, which saw 61 representatives from various companies.

The event from 9am to 1pm covered three main slots that provided briefings on MYFutureJobs, Daya Kerjaya 3.0, the Progressive Wage Policy, and the Lindung Kendiri and Lindung Kasih initiatives.

Papparaidu said that providing equal job opportunities to vulnerable groups such as disabled folk, ex-convicts and those undergoing rehabilitation could contribute to long-term social well-being and state development.

He invited employers to apply the knowledge they obtained during the seminar in their own organisations, to build new networks and create a better work environment.

Meanwhile, most participants said the Socso-organised event helped them better understand the needs of employees in the modern age, and prompted them to reevaluate their approach to managing people in their organisations.

They said the programme helped them choose appropriate incentives, manage their employees with more empathy, and improve hiring strategies.

Mun Sun Sdn Bhd human resources manager Zeenat Nisa said the seminar provided clear explanations on incentives employers could offer to improve workers’ welfare.

“Employers were exposed to various incentives for workers, and it helped us identify the best choice for our organisation,” she said when met at the seminar here today.

She added that strategies learnt at the seminar could be applied to daily organisational operations to strengthen people management.

“This programme gave us very useful exposure and knowledge to apply in the company’s daily operations,” Zeenat said.

“It is a comprehensive and holistic programme for all,” he said.

He added that the sharing session during the seminar helped employers better understand methods to improve talent acquisition and plan human capital development in a more consistent manner.
