SHAH ALAM, Nov 29 — A 1.16km roofed micromobility pathway on Persiaran Sultan in Section 14 here will be built with an RM3.8 million allocation to link the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Building, Darul Ehsan Building, and Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque.
State executive councillor for investment, trade and mobility Ng Sze Han said the lane, specially designed for bicycles, e-scooters and pedestrians, aims to encourage a healthier lifestyle and promote the use of environmentally friendly modes of transport.
It is due to be completed in May 2026.
“Every local authority has been told to identify a large-scale pedestrian pathway project that directly impacts users in each location.
“These projects are a part of the state government’s efforts to promote a pedestrian-friendly community, reduce vehicle use, lower carbon (emission) rates, and preserve the environment,” he told a press conference at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Building here recently.
Ng added that the micromobility lane, implemented with the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA), could be an example of linked pathways and benchmarks for other local authorities to strengthen their public transport ecosystems.
Meanwhile, Shah Alam Mayor Dato’ Fauzi Mohd Yatim said MBSA intends to extend the roofed walkway from the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque to the Dato’ Menteri LRT station when the project is complete.
“The roofed path was designed to absorb heat and protect users from rain, and ensure the safety and comfort of pedestrians.
“This project emphasises environmental friendliness and creates a safe, comfortable city for users,” Fauzi said.
