SHAH ALAM, Nov 29 — KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM) has maintained its solid waste collection and management and public cleansing schedule throughout Selangor, even amid forecasts of continuous heavy rain and storms until tomorrow.

KDEBWM general operation manager Mohd Idris Mohamed Yusof said real-time duty adjustments will be done if the weather worsens.

“This is to ensure services remain smooth and workers’ safety is guaranteed. Additional monitoring steps have been activated, especially in high-risk areas.

“KDEBWM public cleansing teams have also been deployed to several locations impacted by heavy rain since early morning,” he told Media Selangor.

He said near-term measures include cleaning clogged drains, collecting light bulk waste that could block water flow, and immediately cleaning after a rain spell to lower the risk of flash floods.

“Our focus is in areas identified as at high risk of slow water flow or overflow, especially in the Shah Alam, Klang, Sepang and Hulu Langat zones. Reports from our field workers are sent periodically to enable immediate action,” Idris said.

Last night, Selangor’s flood victim toll rose to 3,967 people from 1,094 families.

According to the Social Welfare Department’s (JKM) InfoBencana portal, the evacuees are sheltering at 29 temporary relief centres in Sepang, Kuala Langat, Klang, Kuala Selangor, and Sabak Bernam.

On Thursday, the Meteorological Department said Selangor, Perak and parts of Pahang could be affected by Tropical Storm Senyar, which brings winds of up to 50kph and more than 200mm of rain over 24 hours.

Tropical Storm Senyar is the first of its kind, having formed over the Malacca Strait, and has heightened the risk of severe weather and continuous rain in the three states.

The Selangor government has improved disaster preparedness during the tropical storm, prioritising the people’s safety in this unprecedented event.
