Runner pleads guilty to injuring sports journalist

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 28 — A runner pleaded guilty in the Magistrate’s Court today to a charge of injuring veteran sports journalist cum the National Press Club's deputy president Haresh Deol on Tuesday (November 25).

R. Krishnan, 37, was charged together with another suspect still at large with intentionally causing injury to Haresh Singh Chain Sing, 43, in front of the Tanjung Balai Group building at Jalan Telawi 3, Bangsar, between 3.10pm and 3.32pm.

The charge was framed under Section 323 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34, which carries a maximum jail term of one year, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.

Magistrate Illi Marisqa Khalizan allowed the accused bail of RM2,000 in one surety and set January 22 next year for the case facts and sentencing.

Earlier, Deputy Public Prosecutor Hench Goh requested bail of RM4,000 in one surety.

Lawyer Mohamad Salihen Mastor, representing Krishnan, requested a lower bail amount as his client works as a runner earning RM40 a day.

"My client has to support his unemployed wife and six school-going children. I request that the bail amount be lowered with the additional condition that he reports to the police station," he said.

Goh did not object to the additional condition requested by the lawyer.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, Haresh, a co-founder of the news portal TwentyTwo13, said that he was attacked by two men while heading to his car, while another individual recorded the incident using a mobile phone.
