Sabah polls: Amirudin says voter sentiment for Harapan positive

SHAH ALAM, Nov 26 — Despite various challenges like multi-cornered fights, voter sentiment toward Pakatan Harapan has been positive, as campaigning for the Sabah election nears a close, said Parti Keadilan Rakyat vice-president Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

He said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s popularity remains an asset in securing voter support, complemented by Harapan’s consistent track record in implementing policies that address the people’s needs.

“Public sentiment is generally positive, especially toward the Madani government and Harapan component parties.

“There is no significant pushback, but we still face the challenge of competing in multi-cornered fights with several opposing parties,” he told Media Selangor at the launch of Sabah Harapan’s manifesto, themed “Harapan Urang Sabah (Sabah People’s Hopes)”, last week.

Amirudin, who is also Selangor menteri besar, said the coalition’s main advantage lies in the public’s confidence, backed by Anwar’s achievements in governing Putrajaya for the past three years.

He called on supporters and party machinery to stay focused on delivering accurate information and to avoid being drawn into political provocations, adding that the Sabah election is an important indicator of public support of the unity government, and Harapan’s extended role in the state administration will deliver greater impact to the people.

“We are confident of playing a larger and more serious role in the state government. If we are able to increase our involvement this time, it will strengthen our presence in the administration.

“A strong relationship between the state and federal governments will serve as a bridge to ensure the people’s safety, promote prosperity through good governance, and uphold fairness for all,” Amirudin said.

Three thousand Keadilan members have been deployed to engage with voters for the Sabah election.

Among the main pledges under the Sabah Harapan manifesto include securing the 40 per cent state revenue to which the state is entitled, administrative reform through cabinet restructuring, and offering 20,000 jobs for youth.

More than 1.7 million Sabah voters are eligible to cast their ballots for 73 state seats on polling day on Saturday.
