SHAH ALAM, Nov 26 — The number of flood victims in the country has continued to increase, with 24,907 people from 8,308 families being displaced as at 6am, said the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma).
The victims are sheltering at 142 temporary relief centres (PPS) in 26 districts nationwide.
KELANTAN remains the worst-affected state, with 9,525 victims in Tumpat, Kota Bharu, Bachok, and Pasir Puteh.
Tumpat logged the highest number of evacuees at 4,913, although the figure is declining. The three other districts saw an increase in victims.
The number of victims in PERLIS also continues to climb, with 5,968 people housed across 18 PPS.
In PERAK, 4,184 have been displaced by floods, with Manjung recording the most victims at 1,705. Several roads in the district have been closed due to landslides.
In SELANGOR, 2,964 victims were evacuated to 21 PPS in Kuala Selangor, Klang, Petaling, and Sabak Bernam. Among the roads closed are Jalan Robinson, Jalan Harmoni dan Persiaran Puncak Alam.
KEDAH recorded 2,043 victims, with the majority in Kubang Pasu, while TERENGGANU has 131 victims in Besut and Marang as of this morning.
PENANG and PAHANG recorded 50 and 42 victims, respectively.
The Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm, heavy rain, and strong wind warning for several states, along with a continuous torrential rain alert for five districts in Kelantan, including Tumpat and Pasir Mas.
Water levels across several major rivers in Kelantan and Johor, such as Sungai Semerak and Sungai Golok, also recorded an upward trend, while Perlis and Terengganu showed mixed levels.
The Public Works Department (JKR) reported over 100 full or partial road closures across the country due to flooding, flash floods, landslides, collapsed road shoulders and road subsidence, including:
Jalan Padang Behor in Guar Syed Alwi, Perlis – Opened to heavy vehicles
Jalan Teluk Gedung in Manjung, Perak – Closed
Jalan Jitra-Kelubi in Kubang Pasu, Kedah – Closed
FT54 Assam Jawa in Sungai Buloh, Selangor – Reopened
Jalan Wakaf Bharu in Palekbang, Kelantan – Reopened
Several dams are at capacity after heavy rain, including:
Congok, Bekok and Linggiu (Johor)
Malut (Kedah)
Air Kuning and Sultan Azlan Shah (Perak)
Timah Tasoh (Perlis)
Sungai Semenyih and Klang Gates (Selangor)
