MELAKA, July 26 — The number of flood evacuees in Melaka dropped to 76 people from 21 households as at 5pm today, compared with 124 people from 37 households at 8am.
They comprise 55 adults and 23 children
According to the Social Welfare Department’s (JKM) InfoBencana portal, 14 people from three households are sheltering at one temporary relief centre (PPS) in Melaka Tengah district — the Pantai Kundor State Constituency Development and Coordination Committee (JAPERUN) hall.
In Jasin district, 37 people from 10 households are accommodated at the SK Serkam Darat relief centre, while 25 evacuees from eight households remain at the SK Bukit Tembakau relief centre.
The portal said the evacuees comprise 55 adults and 21 children.
Meanwhile, in Sabah, 362 flood victims from 102 households are sheltered at a PPS in Tawau as at 4pm today.
The Sabah Disaster Management Committee secretariat said the figure is an increase from 335 victims from 96 households this morning.
“The evacuees are being accommodated at the Tawau Sports Complex Multipurpose Hall,” the secretariat said in a statement.
The victims were evacuated from Kampung Tanjung Batu Keramat, Tanjung Batu Darat, Tanjung Batu Otentik, and Kampung Kinabutan Tiku Batu 6.
No casualties have been reported.
Rescue agencies are monitoring the situation, with water levels in some areas declining.
The Tawau floods were caused by continuous rain since Friday, prompting a disaster to be officially declared at 8.30am yesterday.
