SHAH ALAM, Nov 24 — Selangor continues to lead the nation in trade performance, supported by ongoing state initiatives to strengthen export capacity, said state executive councillor for investment, trade, and mobility Ng Sze Han.

Responding to questions on the development allocation for the 2026 Selangor Budget, he said the state government has been actively supporting exporters through programmes, organisations, international missions, and collaborations with Federal agencies.

“Among the efforts implemented by the state government to enhance export performance are the Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS), overseas trade missions, and guidance programmes for exploring export markets in collaboration with the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade),” Ng said in the State Legislative Assembly today.

Sharing Selangor’s latest trade data for January to August 2025, he said the state continues to dominate national performance.

“For trade, Selangor ranks first, contributing 31.2 per cent or RM250 billion. For exports, we are in third place with 24.2 per cent or RM366.47 billion, while for imports, we rank first with 38.8 per cent, amounting to RM616.5 billion,” Ng said.

These figures reflect the state’s continuous efforts to strengthen its global competitiveness and maintain its position as Malaysia’s leading trade hub.

Regarding the Integrated Development Region in South Selangor (Idriss) development, the councillor clarified that the initiative comprises large-scale property developments driven entirely by private landowners and developers.

“The Idriss development projects are large-scale property developments undertaken by landowners or the private sector.

“The implementation of projects under Idriss is based on the developers’ own planning. The state government’s role is only to assist developers so that their proposed developments can be carried out according to plan,” he said.

Idriss covers multiple sectors across industries, including services, high-tech agriculture, tourism, and housing.

Ng added that balanced implementation can be achieved through upgrading traditional villages with improved local infrastructure, creating new economic opportunities, and offering skills and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) to ensure a skilled workforce.

These measures are intended to support local communities while ensuring that development under Idriss contributes to holistic, sustainable growth across sectors.
