KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 23 — A man who was seen driving a luxury sport utility vehicle (SUV) dangerously along the Sungai Besi Highway towards Taman Naga Emas, which went viral on social media yesterday, was arrested by the police this morning.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief ACP Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the 32-year-old man was detained when he turned up at the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Police Station at 10.30am to have his statement recorded.
“Initial investigations found that the incident occurred at 8am yesterday. The police also conducted urine and evidential breath analyser (EBA) tests on the man,” he said in a statement.
Zamzuri added that when questioned, the suspect claimed his vehicle’s tyre had burst after hitting a pothole and, as his home was nearby, he decided to drive straight there.
A one-minute video of the incident, recorded by a motorcyclist, showed a Range Rover Velar being driven dangerously with its right rear tyre blown out, leaving the rim exposed.
He urged witnesses to come forward and assist in the investigation by contacting the Tun H.S. Lee Traffic Police Station at 03-2071 9999 or any nearby police station.
The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving.
