KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 14 — The driver of a BYD sports utility vehicle involved in a six-vehicle accident that claimed the life of a five-year-old girl on Jalan Kuching on Saturday (October 10) will be charged in the Magistrate's Court tomorrow.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) chief ACP Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the 24-year-old man was arrested at 11.30am today.
Police arrested him soon after he was discharged from a private hospital in Damansara, where he had received treatment. They then took the suspect to the lock-up at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters at 12.30pm.
“The investigation papers were referred to the Prosecution Director at 3pm today for further action. The prosecution has agreed to charge the man at Magistrate's Court 13 (Traffic) in Jalan Duta at 9am tomorrow,” he said in a statement today.
Zamzuri added that the suspect faces three charges under the Road Transport Act 1987, namely Section 41(1) for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving, Section 42(1) for reckless and dangerous driving, and Section 52(1) for failing to stop after an accident.
Previously, the media reported that the girl, who was travelling in a Perodua Bezza, sustained severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital following the accident.
The crash occurred at 3.44pm and was believed to have happened when the BYD Seal driven by the suspect struck the rear of the Perodua Bezza, which was moving slowly in traffic heading from the city centre towards Segambut.
The impact also involved a motorcycle, causing the Perodua Bezza to spin into the right lane and collide with three other vehicles — a Nissan Almera, a Toyota Alphard, and a Perodua Myvi.
The driver of the Perodua Bezza, who is the victim's father, and the motorcyclist were also injured in the incident.
