SUBANG JAYA, Nov 23 — The Selangor Hawkers and Small Traders Day (HPPKS) 2025, which ran from Friday (November 21) to yesterday, recorded an extraordinary response with attendance surpassing 15,000 visitors, far exceeding the initial target.

Yayasan Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI head Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor said they also expect sales to reach RM100,000, driven by the use of free Selangor Platform (PLATS) digital coupons and Point-of-Sale (POS) devices that facilitated transactions throughout the event.

“Alhamdulillah (God be praised), the response has been very encouraging. Traders were satisfied, with some selling out by the afternoon and needing to restock. MBI, through PLATS, spent RM8,000 to provide RM10 digital coupons to visitors.

“I am confident the number of visitors exceeded 15,000. This morning (yesterday), there was already a crowd at the Jualan Ehsan Rahmah (JER) sale, where eggs were offered at RM1 per tray. Tonight (last night), there is also a concert, so I believe the overall total is significantly higher,” he said during the event yesterday.

Azri added that HPPKS will continue next year, with the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) selected as the host.

“Following the success of this year’s event, HPPKS 2026 will be held together with the national-level celebration in November, with MBSA chosen as the next host.

“I am confident that next year we will make it even more exciting, more ‘havoc’, and provide opportunities for more traders to participate on a major platform like this,” he said.

With the theme 'Hawkers and Small Traders as Drivers of Selangor’s Digital Economy', the inaugural event focused on increasing the adoption of technology and digital transactions among hawkers and small traders.

HPPKS was organised through a collaboration between MBI and Agrobank, bringing together 2,000 micro and small entrepreneurs, 12 local authorities, and various government agencies, with a target of 15,000 visitors.

The programme also offered free trading spaces for small traders to market their products, obtain entrepreneurship assistance information, and participate in capacity-building activities.

Other attractions included the Eco Free Market (free distribution of second-hand items), RM1-per-tray egg sales, a remote-controlled acrobatic helicopter show, PLATS Kitchen with Didie Alias, and a Junior Chef cake decoration competition.

It also featured several special awards, including the Highest Digital Coupon Collection Award, Battle of the Best Staff, and the Cleanest and Most Customer-Friendly Hawker Award.

Visitors also had the opportunity to enjoy performances by artists including Black Hanifah, Afiq Adnan, and Astravella, as well as lucky draws and free PLATS digital coupons worth RM10.
