SUBANG JAYA, Nov 21 — Any documents involving business strategies cannot be fully disclosed to the public as they concern the interests of the state government, related companies, the local authorities, and the business entities involved.
Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said the process of declassifying a document can only be carried out when all parties grant full consent.
“This process is important because not all documents can be released immediately to the public, especially those involving business plans, as these constitute the strategies and capabilities of the companies involved.
"Each document requires the agreement of the state government, Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI, the local authorities, and the companies involved before it can be declassified,” he said.
Amirudin was speaking to the press after officiating the Selangor Hawkers and Small Traders Day 2025 celebration at The Roundabout @ Putra Heights this evening.
He added that many state government matters are tabled at the State Executive Council (MMKN) meetings and classified under the Official Secrets Act (OSA) 1972. Therefore, each application must go through a declassification process in the meeting before the information can be disclosed.
Earlier, during the State Legislative Assembly winding-up session, the Menteri Besar said that the matter had been discussed in two previous MMKN meetings and, in principle, the state government had agreed to declassify documents under the OSA, except for contract documents involving related companies.
Amirudin noted that this approach is implemented to ensure that state government affairs are carried out transparently without compromising the business interests or sensitive information of the parties involved.
