SHAH ALAM, Nov 21 — The recent demolition of illegal factories in Sungai Buloh was carried out following security assessments by the Chief Government Security Office (CGSO), which found the structures dangerously close to the Sungai Buloh Army Camp’s perimeter.

State executive councillor for local government and tourism Dato’ Ng Suee Lim said the proximity posed risks to both access and the integrity of the camp’s infrastructure.

“Based on the latest evaluation by the CGSO, the illegal buildings were constructed too close to the camp’s perimeter, creating threats to entry access and potential damage to the perimeter fence.

“The office recommended demolition to ensure the safety of the surrounding area,” he said in his winding-up speech for the 2026 Selangor Budget during the State Legislative Assembly session today.

Ng added that the demolition only involved two factories whose ownership could not be regularised, while other structures in the area that had secured legal ownership in 2002 were left untouched.

Last week, the authorities demolished about 40 illegal factories and an unauthorised house that had occupied government land within the Sungai Buloh Army Camp’s buffer zone for nearly two decades.

He noted that all procedures, including on-site inspections and inter-agency assessments, were conducted meticulously and in accordance with regulations.

The cleared land will be maintained as a buffer zone to prevent future encroachments, with ongoing monitoring by the state authorities.

The demolition came amid broader efforts by the Selangor government to streamline development approvals and regulate industrial zones.

Previously, Ng said the state government aims to legalise at least 70 per cent of unauthorised factories by 2027 as part of efforts to ensure the industrial sector operates legally, systematically, and safely.
