Police dismiss claims of KAFA student abduction

SHAH ALAM, Aug 17 — Claims of a student being kidnapped from Sekolah Agama KAFA At-Taqwa at Masjid Bandar Baru Sungai Buloh are untrue, said police today, as reported by Kosmo Online.

Sungai Buloh police chief Mohd Hafiz Muhammad Nor confirmed the matter and said the force found the viral post on Threads yesterday about the kidnapping attempt.

Hafiz said he also received a police report lodged by the student’s mother.

“Based on initial investigations, it was found there was no case of attempted kidnapping as reported and the student is well and safe with their family,” he said in a statement today.

Hafiz also advised the public not to upload statements that could incite panic.

He said local residents should report such incidents to the Sungai Buloh district police headquarters via its 24-hour hotline at 03-6157 9204 or the general 999 emergency line.

“(If found spreading misinformation, suspects) may be charged and punished under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code, which carries up to two years’ prison, a fine, or both.

“Action can also be taken under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act (1998), which provides for a maximum fine of RM50,000, a year’s jail, or both,” he added.

Earlier, a Threads post claimed that there was an attempt to kidnap a student from Masjid Bandar Baru Sungai Buloh.

The post, which was widely shared on the platform, claimed that someone tried to lure students from the KAFA school by offering to send them home.
